Mark joined the company in 2008 and, since then, has gained a wide range field experience in micropalaeontology, nannopalaeontology, acid and non-acid palynology preparation. Mark is certified to use Hydrofluoric acid.
Mark is fully certificated for offshore work and has completed 20+ wellsite deployments, conducting non-acid palynological preparation at several wellsites offshore in the North Sea, Ghana, Benin, Liberia, and the Gulf of Mexico, and acid-preparation offshore in the North Sea (UK and Norway), Gulf of Mexico and Ghana, as well as onshore Scotland. Mark has also prepared micropalaeontology samples offshore North Sea, Benin and Ghana and nannopalaeontology slides offshore in Newfoundland, Gulf of Mexico, Ghana, Benin, Norway and onshore in Mozambique.
Gary has more than 38 years’ experience in the petroleum industry as a laboratory technician and laboratory manager. Gary’s experience ranges from overseeing the collation, storage and archiving of data and samples, arranging equipment logistics for our wellsite services and training many overseas oil company personnel. He has processed samples for Biostratigraphy, Sedimentology and Geochemistry; however, his personal specialty is Thin Section preparation. Since joining PetroStrat in 2007 Gary has returned to his favoured role working in the laboratory. Gary is IOSH accredited and certified to use Hydrofluoric Acid and is a member of the company H&S Committee.
Gary regularly works offshore, processing samples for micropalaeontology and palynology and his assignments include offshore work in the UK, Norway, Ghana, and Angola, and onshore in Morocco and Malaysia. He is adept at both acid and acid-free palynological preparation techniques.
Calvin joined PetroStrat in 2008 and has gained experience in processing samples for palynology (acid and non-acid), micropalaeontology (including microfossil picking), and nannopalaeontology. Calvin is certified to provide First Aid at Work and to use Hydrofluoric acid and administer oxygen resuscitation therapy he has Manual Handling certification. Additionally, Calvin is a certified PAT tester for PetroStrat and a member of the company’s H&S Committee.
Calvin is a keen photographer and has recently become involved in supplying the company with images for use on the company website and marketing publications.
Calvin has completed over 25 wellsite assignments in support of PetroStrat Biostratigraphers offshore in the North Sea, Liberia, Ghana, Gabon, Canada (Newfoundland) as well as onshore Scotland, Egypt and Poland.
Paul joined PetroStrat in October 2013, bringing with him 9 years of previous experience working in similar laboratory settings. Whilst the majority of his experience and knowledge centres on acid and non-acid palynology processing, he also has experience in preparing micropalaeontology and nannopalaeontology; additionally he has geochemistry experience. He is certified to use of Hydrofluoric acid, administer oxygen resuscitation therapy, and has attended a range of courses relating to COSHH, risk assessments, and the control of waste and its management. He is also trained in the use of Breathing Apparatus.
Paul is certified to work offshore and over his 12 years of offshore work, has gained a wide range of wellsite experience on 30+ well site jobs. These have mainly been in Norway but he has also worked much more widely ranging from the UK North Sea, Denmark, Falkland Islands, Gabon and Papua New Guinea. In 2014, Paul embarked on an Open University degree course aiming for a B.Sc. in Natural Sciences.
Joan joined PetroStrat in 2009 as a Laboratory Technician and has more than 20 years of experience working within the industry. She has experience in processing samples for palynology, micropalaeontology (including microfossil picking), nannopalaeontology, and geochemistry she is also a fire Marshall and member of the company’s H&S Committee.
Joan has worked at wellsite onshore in Norway.
Stuart joined the company in June 2011 as a laboratory technician, developing skills in processing and preparing samples for palynology, micropalaeontology and nannopalaeontology. He has attended a range of courses relating to COSHH, risk assessments, manual handling and first aid, and his experience within the industry also includes various sampling trips in the U.K. and Norway.
Stuart is fully trained and certified for offshore work and has gained a wide range of experience both offshore and onshore with numerous wellsites in Liberia, Ghana, Gulf of Mexico, Mozambique and the North Sea.
Charlie joined PetroStrat in April 2012 and now has 4 years’ experience as a Laboratory Technician gaining competency in processing and preparing samples for palynology, micropalaeontology, nannopalaeontology and is certified to use Hydrofluoric acid and has a Manual Handling certificate.
Charlie is fully certified as a wellsite technician and has gained experience working onshore in Mozambique and offshore Gulf of Mexico, Ghana, and many separate non-acid palynology jobs in the UK Sector, North Sea.
Having gained an M.Sc. in Geology and Geography from the University of Birmingham in 2011, Tesni worked for 6 months with the Environment Agency in Bangor (Hydrology and Water resources), before joining PetroStrat in April 2013.Tesni has continued to develop her skills as a Laboratory Technician, gaining competency in processing and preparing samples for palynology (acid and non-acid), micropalaeontology, nannopalaeontology and thin sections.
Tesni is fully trained and certified for offshore work, and has completed offshore wellsite assignments in Benin and Ghana, the North Sea in the UK Sector and Denmark, and onshore in Mozambique.
Fiona gained a B.Sc. in Botany & Geography and M.Sc. (Tropical Quaternary Palynology), both from Hull University. Subsequently, she worked for 10 years in the petroleum geochemistry industry in both North Wales and Jakarta, specializing in spore colouration & kerogen typing, and vitrinite reflectivity analyses.
Fiona joined PetroStrat as a micropalaeontological sample picker in 2014. Prior to joining PetroStrat, Fiona worked as a technical assistant with her husband’s stratigraphic company based in Deganwy.
Michael joined the PetroStrat Laboratory Technician team in January 2014, working initially as a Micro-picker and has now developed range of laboratory skills and is competent in processing and preparing samples for palynology (acid and non-acid), micropalaeontology, and nannopalaeontology Michael has also taken part in sampling trips.
Michael is fully trained and certified for offshore work and has worked offshore in Denmark.
Rose joined PetroStrat in September 2014 and works in the Laboratory Technician team. She first developed an interest in Micropalaeontology whilst undertaking a B.Sc. (Hons) in Geological Oceanography at Bangor University between 2005 and 2008. Rose has developed her skills as a member of the micro-picking team.
Lloyd joined PetroStrat in 2018 bringing with him 14 years of previous experience as a laboratory technician, 11 of those being in the oil and gas industry.
Lloyd has a strong background in geochemistry and specializes in the production of thin-sections slides.
Since joining the company Lloyd has attended courses relating to HF awareness, O2 therapy, environmental awareness and manual handling as well as becoming a company PAT tester to add to a wide range of skills he already possesses.
Darren joined the company in October 2015 and later moved into the role of Laboratory Technician in July 2017. Since then he has undergone a range of training including acid and non-acid palynology processing, Micropalaeontology and Nannopalaeontology preparation.
Darren completed his offshore training in 2018 and made his first wellsite deployment to Denmark soon after.
Darren is trained in the handling of hydrofluoric acid and is a company first aider and PAT tester.
Iolanda joined PetroStrat in 2018, bringing with her 30 years of previous laboratory experience in a variety of industries. Iolanda specializes in chemistry and has taught at high school level in Romania. Iolanda is also skilled at alternative therapies and is a Reiki master.
Since joining PetroStrat, Iolanda has developed skills in processing and preparing samples for palynology, micropaleontology and nannopaleontology. She has attended courses relating to HF awareness, O2 therapy, environmental awareness and manual handling.
Iolanda is due to complete her BOSIET and MIST training on October 2018.
In 2018 Anne joined PetroStrat in the role of housekeeper however she moved into the laboratories soon after having shown a keen interest in the work of the laboratory having completed a previous course in applied science.
Since joining the PetroStrat laboratory team, Anne has developed skills in processing and preparing samples for micropaleontology and nannopaleontology as well as microfossil picking. She has attended courses relating to HF awareness, O2 therapy, environmental awareness and manual handling.
Anne is due to complete her BOSIET and MIST training on October 2018.
Jonathan joined PetroStrat in 2018. Prior to joining the company, Jonathan spent 17 years as a medical professional for both the NHS and the armed forces.
Since joining PetroStrat, Jonathan has developed skills in processing and preparing samples for micropaleontology and nannopaleontology as well as microfossil picking. He has attended courses relating to HF awareness, O2 therapy, environmental awareness and manual handling as well as becoming a company PAT tester.
Jonathan is due to complete his BOSIET and MIST training in October 2018.
