Key points

  • Technically consistent, regionally correlatable Ichron Sequences assigned from first returns to TD in every well
  • 75 wells newly added to the NSD
  • Has been revised and reissued since originally being generated in 2012, with a revision and extension scheduled for 2024-25

A 75-well subset of PetroStrat’s Norwegian Stratigraphic Database (NSD), across the South Viking Graben & Utsira High area of the Norwegian North Sea. These 75 wells in quads 15 to 26 provide a biostratigraphically-driven framework readily correlative with NSD subsets in the North Viking Graben and Central Graben, while also translating across to wells within the UK Stratigraphic Database (UKSD). These 75 wells are scheduled to be updated to a new 2024/25 version, after Ichron Sequences were first applied here in 2012 and have been regularly updated since. Stratigraphic interpretations in this forthcoming update will be calibrated with the revised, integrated PetroStrat zonation scheme. This will also include (a) the new ‘Factpages Deviations’ column, highlighting differences in interpreted depths of formation/member by PetroStrat, relative to that published on NPD Factpages, and (b) the inclusion of new J-Sequence picks (as per Partington et al., 1993, updated to Copestake and Partington, 2023).

This 75 well subset, which includes high profile discoveries for the Greig area (Luno) together with offset wells close to the Johan Sverdrup area (Avaldsnes – Aldous), provides technically consistent Ichron Sequence interpretation from first returns to TD in every well, encompassing the breadth of stratigraphy.

Deliverables

  • Stratigraphic framework and zonation scheme
  • Stratigraphic summary charts for all 75 wells including age, lithostratigraphy, sample data
  • Points and biostratigraphic marker events, all set against the wireline/MWD logs
  • Correlation panels highlighting regional thickness trends, stratigraphic breaks & hiatal
  • surfaces within the context of the regional structural elements
  • IC format database
  • Local lithostratigraphic scheme applied to all wells
  • Digital export of Ichron stratigraphic sequences and lithostratigraphic boundaries
