Key points

  • 30 well dataset focuses on the upper Maureen – lower Sele Formation (including Mey Sandstone Member and the Lista Formation).
  • Quantative new analyses of 450 samples (mostly palynology), which supplements data integrated from Ichron-generated proprietary studies iwith permission from; ConocoPhillips, Chevron Texaco & Kerr McGee
  • New higher resolution biostratigraphic zonation enables recognition of 8 discrete ‘M Units’ (M1-M8), which replaces emphasis on the inconsistent lithostratigraphic assignment of Balmoral/Andrew Fields terminology Distribution, layering & diachroneity of sand units now much better understood

This study provides a high-resolution (reservoir scale) stratigraphic calibration of the Late Paleocene reservoir interval from Quadrants 15 and 16, UKCS. The 30 well dataset focuses on the upper Maureen – lower Sele Formation and in particular the Mey Sandstone Member and the Lista Formation. The well dataset includes a high proportion of the fields in the area together with a number of offset wells. This study consequently provides a unified stratigraphic dataset that subdivides the Mey Sandstone Member into 8 units that can be correlated between the various fields. This study highlights the areal extent of the various phases of sand deposition and provides a valuable insight into fairway switching and backstepping of the system.

Deliverables

15 16 Quadrant UKCS Stratigraphic Database Map
  • Stratigraphic framework and zonation scheme.
  • Local lithostratigraphic scheme applied to all wells.
  • New biostratigraphic analysis on 450 samples.
  • Stratigraphic summary chart for each of the 30 wells including age, lithostratigraphy, sample data points and biostratigraphical marker events, all set against the wireline/MWD logs.
  • Correlation panels highlighting sand distribution and thickness trends.
  • Tabulated stratigraphic depths for each individual well.
  • ODM deliverable.
  • Digital data export of stratigraphic sequences and lithostratigraphic boundaries.
